do i tip Israeli tour guide?

Should I tip the tour guide? The answer is yes, but how much should I give?

There are some factors to consider. If you are on a group tour, your tour Terms and Conditions should state if the tip for the guide and bus driver is included. If it is not mentioned, you should calculate $5.00 per person, per day to tip the bus driver. For the guide, it is recommended to give at the least $7.00 per person or more depending on their service.

Remember that those who provide service deserve to be tipped.

If the guide goes above and beyond, you can also give them a monetary gift. Usually, the hostess will suggest giving a gift and will pass an envelope through the group to collect a donation to be given with a card signed by everyone. This is a culturally appropriate way to give a gift without singling out one person as more generous than another.

In general, those in the tourism industry rely heavily on tips and gratuities to make a living. It is always better to be generous than to regret not giving more.

WHEW .. What about tipping other people in Israel?

BIG Question!! Let me address customs and more tipping expectations in the next blog post, however here is one place that it is customary to leave a tip.

It is customary to leave a tip for the maid service when having your hotel room serviced. If you do not have service during your stay, it is recommended to leave a tip on the dresser upon departure. And of course, it is always best to leave the room clean and tidy as a gesture of kindness.

When in doubt, dig deep and give with a big heart! This may be the only time you have the opportunity to make a financial deposit directly into an Israeli citizen.
